Heat treatment & distortion simulation

Heat treatment decides the properties of a part — and often its final shape. Coupled thermal, metallurgical and mechanical simulation predicts carbon profiles, phase fractions, hardness, residual stress and distortion, so quench parameters and fixtures can be chosen by calculation instead of by scrap.

Questions we answer

Before the trial, not after it.

  • Will case depth and surface hardness meet the drawing after carburizing and quenching?
  • How much will the part distort — and how much grinding stock is really needed?
  • Gas or oil quench? Which pressure, flow and orientation?
  • Where are the tensile residual stresses and quench-crack risks?
  • How should the part be fixtured or loaded in the furnace?
What you receive

Results you can act on.

  • Carbon (and nitrogen) diffusion profiles
  • Phase fractions, hardness and case depth
  • Residual stress and distortion fields
  • Quench-crack risk indicators
  • Recommended quench and fixturing parameters
Typical A&D parts

Where this matters most.

  • Carburized aero-engine and rotorcraft gears and shafts (Pyrowear 53, AISI 9310)
  • Induction-hardened shafts, splines and bearing components
  • Armor and gun steels — quench cracking and plate distortion
  • Ni-superalloy disks — quench and age, residual stress before machining
