Ring rolling simulation
Contoured rings for engine casings, seal rings and bearing races are rolled close to final shape — and the margin for error is small. Simulation reproduces the mill kinematics and shows how the ring grows, where it fishtails and whether the profile fills, before mill time is spent.
Before the trial, not after it.
- Will the profile fill, and where does fishtailing or conicity develop?
- Which mandrel and axial-roll feed schedule keeps the ring round and stable?
- How does the temperature drop during rolling affect loads and microstructure?
- What ring blank (pierced and upset preform) gives the target geometry?
Results you can act on.
- Ring geometry evolution, ovality and fishtail
- Roll forces and torques
- Temperature and strain distribution
- Grain size and recrystallization (with the microstructure option)
- Optimized blank geometry and roll schedule
Where this matters most.
- Engine casings, combustor and seal rings (Ni superalloys, Ti alloys)
- Bearing races and gear rings
- Flanges and rings for launchers and vehicles
